Eyes, Heart, and Mind on Lebanon: a conversation with elianne el-amyouni

How the West's refusal to integrate death brings it closer to us all

The above conversation with Lebanese-Canadian poet, writer, thinker, artist, and doctorette of philosophy, Elianne El-Amyouni, was recorded in March of this year.

I wanted to re-share this conversation with elianne because her insights reveal layers of humanity and humility beyond the Western paradigm. Her perspective has opened my mind and heart, allowing me to hold a deeper understanding of other worlds, fostering more awareness for the moving, thriving Multiverse we call planet Earth.

While neither elianne nor I believe in the integrity of nation states, we know today that countries are social constructs that govern our lives in many ways. Our world runs on imaginary borders and their rules about who can and cannot cross them.

In our conversation, elianne shares about what it’s like growing up under the threat of warfare and how that changes one’s relationship to death — and being alive. We also touch on alchemy, culture, justice, and how language shapes it all.

Spending time with elianne might serve for you (as it did for me) as a opening to a deeper awareness and a remembrance of our interconnected nature as humans. I hope you enjoy her brilliance as much as I do.

May we all embody the knowing that our collective futures are linked to one another.

Cheers to Joel Ashton McCarthy for filming and editing this podcast video episode.
